Ingredients

For the Skillet
  • 1 pound large shrimp peeled and deveined
  • 12 ounces smoked kielbasa sausage sliced into rounds
  • 4 cups broccoli florets
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil divided
  • 2 cups cooked rice for serving (optional)
For the Honey Garlic Sauce
  • ¼ cup honey
  • 3 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes optional
  • 1 –2 tablespoons water as needed to adjust the sauce

Equipment

  • Large skillet
  • Small mixing bowl
  • Whisk or fork
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Sharp knife
  • Cutting board
  • Spatula or wooden spoon
  • Paper towels
  • Serving plates or bowls

Method

  1. Prepare the Sauce: Whisk together the honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, lemon juice, and optional red pepper flakes in a small bowl. Set aside a portion of clean sauce for cooking.
  2. Prepare the Ingredients: Pat the shrimp dry with paper towels. Cut the broccoli into bite-sized florets and slice the kielbasa into even rounds.
  3. Cook the Broccoli: Heat half the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the broccoli and cook for about 4–6 minutes, stirring occasionally, until bright green and tender-crisp. Add a small splash of water and cover briefly if you prefer softer broccoli. Transfer to a plate.
  4. Brown the Sausage: Add the remaining olive oil to the skillet. Cook the kielbasa for about 3–4 minutes, turning occasionally, until heated through and browned at the edges. Transfer to the plate with the broccoli.
  5. Cook the Shrimp: Place the shrimp in a single layer in the skillet. Cook for about 1–2 minutes per side, depending on size, until pearly and opaque throughout. Avoid overcooking.
  6. Simmer the Sauce: Pour the reserved, unused honey garlic sauce into the skillet. Bring it to a gentle simmer for 1–2 minutes, stirring so the garlic does not burn.
  7. Combine Everything: Return the broccoli and sausage to the skillet. Add the cooked shrimp and gently toss until everything is coated with sauce. Add a little water if the glaze becomes too thick.
  8. Serve Warm: Spoon the mixture over cooked rice if desired. Serve immediately while the shrimp are tender and the sauce is glossy.

Notes

  • Shrimp: Fresh or frozen shrimp work. Thaw frozen shrimp safely and pat them dry before cooking.
  • Sausage: Smoked kielbasa is convenient because it is generally fully cooked. If using raw sausage, cook it thoroughly according to its package instructions before serving.
  • Broccoli: Cook it separately before combining the ingredients to help preserve its texture.
  • Sauce: Taste before adding extra salt because soy sauce already provides saltiness.
  • Storage: Refrigerate leftovers promptly in an airtight container and reheat gently to avoid tough shrimp.
