Ingredients

  • 1 lb 450 g peeled and deveined shrimp
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 garlic cloves finely chopped
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon salt or to taste
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
  • Lemon wedges for serving

Equipment

  • Large skillet or frying pan
  • Cutting board
  • Chef’s knife
  • Mixing bowl
  • Wooden spoon or spatula
  • Measuring spoons
  • Tongs
  • Paper towels

Method

  1. Prepare the shrimp: Pat the shrimp dry with paper towels. Season with paprika, black pepper, and salt.
  2. Heat the skillet: Place a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add olive oil and let it heat for a short time without letting it smoke.
  3. Cook the shrimp: Add the shrimp in a single layer. Cook for about 1–2 minutes on the first side, then turn and cook until the shrimp are opaque and cooked through.
  4. Add garlic and butter: Reduce the heat slightly. Add butter and chopped garlic. Stir for about 30–60 seconds, just until the garlic becomes fragrant.
  5. Finish the dish: Turn off the heat. Add lemon juice and parsley, then toss the shrimp gently in the skillet.
  6. Serve: Serve immediately with warm rice, pasta, toasted bread, or your favorite vegetables.

Notes

  • Patting the shrimp dry helps them brown instead of releasing excess water into the skillet.
  • Avoid overcrowding the pan. Cook in batches when necessary.
  • Shrimp cook quickly, so watch them closely to avoid a rubbery texture.
  • Fresh lemon juice is best added at the end for a brighter flavor.
  • For a little heat, add a pinch of red pepper flakes with the garlic.

Easy Serving Ideas

Serve these garlic shrimp with:
  • Steamed rice
  • Garlic butter pasta

Ingredient Swaps

Use parsley or cilantro depending on your preference.
Olive oil can be replaced with another suitable cooking oil.
